Cacique Raoni Metuktire was born around 1930, when there were only 305 PPM in the atmosphere. For over 70 years, he has been fighting on the international stage to protect the Amazon rainforest and defend the rights of indigenous communities. There have been victories, but also setbacks, as the forest continues to be exploited and threatened. In spite of everything, he continues to fight with power and love.

Where does he find the energy to continue his fight at nearly 95 years of age? Here’s what he told France 24 when he was in Paris at the end of 2023:
“I’m a chief, a shaman. In the forest, there are spirits who give me strength. These spirits send me messages and I pass them on to you when I ask you to protect the forest. All beings in the forest, on the planet, must be able to breathe and live in harmony.”
